Kicking off their second year in the Atlantic 10, the 49ers continued their tradition of athletic excellence at the commencement of the 2006-'07 season.

In men's soccer, the team wrapped up exhibition action with a pair of ties against Winthrop and UNC Wilmington last week. Senior midfielder Pete Palomino and freshman forward Adam Gross each contributed one goal apiece to the Charlotte attack Thursday at Transamerica Field, resulting in a 2-2 draw with Winthrop. On Saturday, senior midfielder Michael Rose gathered in a pass from senior midfielder Evan Harding to score the lone goal for the 49ers in their 1-1 tie with UNCW. Charlotte travels to UNC Asheville Friday to open its new campaign.

In volleyball, head coach Lisa Marston announced the addition of Nicki Green to the squad's coaching staff as it prepares for the upcoming season. Green, who will work primarily with outside hitters and recruiting efforts, comes to Charlotte following a two-year stint as an assistant at her alma mater, former Conference USA opponent The University of Southern Mississippi. The 49ers will begin their season Friday as they host the Comfort Suites Classic at Halton Arena.
