Imagine you are in your freshman year of high school. While sitting in the lunchroom, a senior decides the pull out the seat next to you and strikes up a conversation. All the sudden, you are asked to go to a senior Halloween party. The days leading up to the event you are both nervous and excited. You cannot decide what to wear and even a few times, you try to convince yourself to not go because who would want a young little freshmen tagging along at a party with the mature seniors. The day of the party you decide to give it a try, remembering to put your friend’s number on speed dial just incase you need to leave early. Once you finally arrive, you begin to feel welcomed. There was no need for the nerves because you fit right in with everyone else. You even recognize some other people from your grade level there.
This is just like the scenario given to me by Emily West, a singer-songwriter from Nashville Tennessee who was invited to be part of the first annual Country Throwdown concert. Touring for 37 days in over twenty cities, this concert contains widely known artists such as Montgomery Gentry, Little Big Town, Jack Ingram, and Eric church, as well as singer-song writers from The Bluebird Café in Nashville Tennessee.
With three stages set up and back-to-back artists, there was never a dull moment in the crowd. Held at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Charlotte, NC this country tour made sure to recognize all artists that was part of the event. Whether it was passing The Bluebird Café or the Outlaw stage on the way to the main stage, or experiencing the side acts that were placed in-between the more widely known artists, everyone singer was given his or her chance to shine in front of a very welcoming audience.
Along with the hospitable fans, were the supportive artists who are all traveling together. Walker Hayes, a recording artist and singer-songwriter, is on his first large tour with the Country Throwdown. “ At first it was intimidating,” said Hayes when joining the other artists, but he then realized they are all alike. Singing the same genre of music, everyone had to be beginners first before they reached country music charts. Sarah Buxton and Jedd Hughes mentioned that they have made so many new friends and each day there is “so much love”.
From the artist who are now on their first tour, to those who have become pro’s at travelling, the Country Throwdown tour has not only provided a variety of country music artists, but has also presented many new and upcoming singers. Through some good competitions has arisen from the artists to play their best when performing, the group has formed a large family, inspiring each other’s music. This tour has allowed audiences to listen to 21 different artists during one day in one venue. Recommended for any music lover, not only country fans, it is an opportunity that should not be passed.
