Halloween is the one time of the year where it is socially acceptable to wear ridiculous costumes and “scare the pants off girls,” as Zac Walker so eloquently put it. On Oct. 29, Chi Phi Fraternity and Alpha Delta Pi Sorority gave Halloween a less creepy and more charitable purpose.

Collectively, they helped support the Boys and Girls Club of America as well as the Ronald McDonald House with over 3,000 community service hours devoted to the organizations. This year’s theme,“CarnEvil,” took unexpected and optimistic Halloween adventurers through a maze in the Chi Phi house that then exited through to the two plus acres of their woodland backyard.

“The three weeks that both members of Chi Phi and Alpha Delta Pi put in as preparation was hard work, but the great attitudes of everyone made the ‘work’ seem easy. I’ve gotten a chance to get to know my fellow brothers better, as well as meet some of the many beautiful women of Alpha Delta Pi.” said senior, Andrew McAnulty as he continued to build sections of the maze.

Brian Rosenfeld, who took responsibility for Chi Phi wanted to especially thank SGA for partially funding the event. “We couldn’t have done it without them, and we hope there are many haunted houses as we continue to move forward.”

“I’m really proud of my sisters for working so hard. We all sacrificed a lot personally for the better of the whole, and it was a great experience that we will all cherish forever,” said volunteer Kim Pham.

The Chi Phi house continues to work towards Greek unity, “we share in the same passions, and even though we wear different letters, our end goal is the same. We’re glad to host events, and we hope to pass on the tradition of Chi Phi as we continue to work together with our fellow Greeks,” said Chi Phi brother and Inter Fraternity Council (IFC) secretary, Ward Thompson.

This year’s haunted house has been a great success. Not only did each organization’s members grow together and have a great time, but they made a difference in someone else’s life as part of the process.
