Charlotte’s own Charlie Coley, III was one of the lucky five players to be taken by the famous Harlem Globetrotters in their third annual draft.

In just two years in a 49ers uniform, the 6’7” forward was known for his ability to dunk, as he finished his Charlotte career second all-time with 102 career dunks.

The Florida native won back-to-back 49ers Slam Dunk contests that take place every year at Basketball Madness where he jumped over Phil Jones, the 6’10” center, and guard DiJuan Harris as he rode a stationary bike.

Coley was also the runner up in the 2009 ESPN Slam Dunk Championship.

In the 2008-09 season, Coley added 51 dunks to earn him second on the all-time list, along with averaging 8.9 points per game, team-high 6.8 rebounds, and 31 blocks.

All five of the players drafted will receive an invitation to training camp in the fall, as the Globetrotters kick off their 84th consecutive season of a world tour.
