Brianna Gwaltney was named this week’s Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week. Gwaltney is the team’s most talented freshman bat, she boasts a .270 batting average on the season, logging starts in each of the team’s 47 games.

Gwaltney is tied for second in home runs this season with Tenaya Tucker. She also has already secured a spot in the 49er record books as fourth best in home runs. She has also driven in 25 RBI, putting her in fifth place all-time for a Niner freshman.

This past week, Gwaltney registered a hit in each of the Niners’ games, two of those hits came in the first game of the series with Elon. One of those hits went soaring over the fence, giving her an impressive four home runs on the season. Last week she drove in three RBI, propelling the Niners to a 3-1 mark at the week’s end with the sweep over conference foe La Salle.

Charlotte caps off the week with a conference match-up with George Washington on Friday and Saturday, then they travel to the Bronx to take on Fordham in a pivotal doubleheader. The Niners look to improve upon their 12-2 conference record, which is good enough for a tie for second place with Fordham.

Following the final regular season game against the Saint Louis Billikens, the Niners head to Amherst, Mass. for the A-10 Tournament.
