I believe that many people do not appreciate the threat of a nuclear Iran and its capability to launch its radioactive warheads at Europe, at American military bases in the Middle East, Israel, and even their Arab neighbors. Most people are not worried because an Iranian Missile cannot strike the North American Continent, so therefore Iran cannot threaten them. Well think again. An Iranian Missile destroying Tel Aviv or one of our aircraft carriers will affect everybody because of the loss of life and prices rising to ten dollars for a gallon of gas. A nuclear Iran with any kind of missile destabilizes the Middle East and threatens our military men and women, as well as our allies throughout the region and in Europe.
By now you are probably thinking that Iran would never use these weapons. The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mahmud Ahmadinejad, is a firm believer in the extermination of an entire race as well as denying that the Holocaust even happened. The Iranian government is the biggest supporter of terrorism and the terrorist groups who perpetrate murder and torture on men, women, and yes, even children. Groups such as Hezbollah, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad all receive their majority of funding from Iran. Imagine Hezbollah using nuclear weapons on an Israeli City or an American Embassy. All of these groups receive their weapons, explosives, and training from an Iranian paramilitary organization called the Revolutionary Guards. The same Revolutionary Guards who aided the Iraqi Insurgents with explosives to kill American Soldiers.
This is the same government who attacked their own citizens in the street because they were marching and demonstrating against the outcome of the Iranian presidential election this past summer. The majority of Iranian citizens want to be rid of their leaders and their theocratic type of government because it oppresses freedom and isolates the country from the rest of the world. The Iranian government spends most of the country’s wealth on nuclear and missile technology as well as supporting terrorist groups. They ignore the needs of the everyday citizens because they would rather have the power to destroy or blackmail any country who does not believe as they do.
Do not put your hope in sanctions or the United Nations because it did not work against Saddam Hussein and it will not work on Mahmud Ahmadinejad. As a nation and a people we only have two options. Do we accept a nuclear Iran and the likelihood of a nuclear arms race in the Middle East, the same Middle East where we import the majority of our oil? Or do we support a country and its people who have the means and determination to stop it, and all they need is our support.
Thankfully this decision is way, way above my pay grade, but as an American, husband, and a father I am very concerned. What I do know is this crisis worries me, so I hope and pray for an outcome that is best for everyone, especially the Iranian people and our Israeli allies.
